The objectives of this study were to determine if daptomycin is bactericidal against nondividing S. aureus and to quantify the extent of the bactericidal activity. It is likely that stationary-phase or nondividing bacteria are common in many persistent infections (e.g., endocarditis and osteomyelitis) and in biofilm-associated infections (e.g., on catheters, grafts, and foreign bodies) ( 11 , 16 ).
